Meet Ambria Simone
How did you first get into makeup?
I honestly first got into makeup during competition season. Usually on Saturdays or Sundays competition in held all day at some school far away. There was LOTS of glitter! Red lipstick too and it’s crazy because now I hate red lipstick.
How do you feel like your love for makeup has changed from when you first started?
My love for makeup has definitely evolved since then. I wasn’t a huge fan of it, but I took on a new perspective. Originally after college I was going to attend the Chicago Art Institute but doubted myself because it was more of a hobby, not something I wanted to make a living off. My sophomore year of college I would go to Walmart and buy different makeup to play with to look cute at someone’s after set. After binge watching makeup tutorials on my off days, I realized makeup was another form of art expression. It relaxes me.
Who is your number one makeup inspiration and why? Top influencers?
THIS IS SO HARD! I would have to say NikkieTutorials, makeupD0LL, and Jackie Aina were all my number one inspirations in different aspects. MakeupD0LL came a long way in how she does her makeup. She learned her face and showed me makeup can truly change an appearance but not in a bad way. I learned from Aunty Jackie that subtle make can always look beautiful and how certain things like an extending wing or no wing can make a difference. She also helped me understand my skin type more and how to find products that best fit my face. As for NikkieTutorials, I was always in love and OBSESSED with her creativity. She always gave us good content. My top big influencers now would be NikkieTutorials, Jackie Aina, Alissa Ashley, MakeupTiffanyJ, and James Charles. My top smaller influencers are @RocioCeja, @HeFlawless, @AbbyRobertsArtistry and @Tailormadejane.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now makeup-wise?
Makeup will still be a hobby because I will be a vet technician or a veterinarian. Hopefully I will hear someone tell me that I am their favorite influencer. I would like to be known for the right reasons as far as my personality and content. Maybe grow enough to have at least one collab with a brand, big or small.
What is one product you can’t live without and why?
I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT MY EYELINER! I can do a killer wing, lol. It isn’t anything to play with. In all honesty, my go to eyeliner is the e.l.f. Cosmetics Expert Liquid Liner. Liquid liner is my favorite and this one is only $2! That’s a stain y’all, don’t sleep.
What has been your biggest milestone/achievement when it comes to makeup?
That’s kinda hard to choose so I will give you both. So I recreated this face chart by an artist on Instagram by the name @Milk1422. A few days later my friend dropped a screenshot in the group chat of my recreation picture posted by MakeupForWOC on Twitter. I was shocked how many people actually liked it and gave positive feedback. My most recent milestone was when I made an Instagram post on how one day a few big influencer will hopefully notice me. Then guess what.. ALISSA FREAKING ASHLEY LIKE MY PICTURE LATER ON THAT NIGHT! I threw my phone across the room and damn near called off work just to create more content and maybe have a margarita or six.
To keep up with Ambria
